one of the best shaving creams you will ever buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4th purchase, I owe them a review
I was hesitant with a tub of shaving cream like this, but dang it lasts a Very long time. You just need the tip of a finger in it, spread that around, and super smooth creamy shave. I’m the person to just keep trying other stuff and always sure there’s something better out there, but I’ve stuck to this for a few years now.The scent is nice, I prefer this to the amber, tho I prefer amber usually. It doesn’t really linger, it’s not a cologne, but it’s pleasant to shave with. Washes off face and blade easily. Not much more I can think of to say, stuff just works and lasts a good long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Shaving Cream
I’ve tried dozens of “high end” shaving creams. This one is my favorite, followed by St. James brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best shave soap
This is my 3rd tub in over 5 years. They last a long time Due to the fact that a small dabble goes a long ways. The sandlewood smells great, not too strong, just right. You don’t have to worry about cans that leak

Nothing compares to this product
Mr. D –
4.0 out of 5 stars which was excellent. First – this is a good value at …
I’ve had limited experience with shaving creams such as this one, so keep that in mind. My only other experience has been with the Edwin Jagger sandalwood shaving cream, which was excellent.First – this is a good value at 5 oz. for roughly $22-25 dollars. Most of the other shaving creams on amazon are in the 2.5 oz – 3 oz range so that’s why this price may appear to be a little higher than say a Taylor of Old Bond Street. The scent is notably lighter than other sandalwood shaving preparations. In fact, the first scent that I smell is just a light, soap smell. Like an unscented hand soap kind of smell. The sandalwood note is very light and lingers more after the shave. It’s pleasant, but perhaps not as strong/musky as I like. I’m not saying I like a heavy musk smell either…it’s just that this one is REALLY light. For what it’s worth, my wife loves the scent of this one, and the lavender art of shaving cream as well.It easily whipped up with a badger brush and a little water, and it didn’t take much product to get good coverage. The shave was smooth – no complaints there. I can’t say my face felt as moisturized or hydrated after the shave as with the Edwin Jagger cream. I was also a little disappointed to see that the ingredients list included propylene glycol, but then again, this was never advertised as being all natural. The Edwin Jagger shave cream in Sandalwood is still a few notches above this one in my mind, but it is also roughly the same price but about half of the size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most pleased with this product
I received this product near the end of April 2012. My son-in-law gave me a tub of another brand, the smell of which I found unappealing, so gratefully gave it back to him. I loved the concept and ease of use, but searched Amazon for the highest rating for a similar product, and came upon ‘The Art of Shaving’ [Sandalwood). I must say that I am exceedingly pleased. The aroma is pleasant and subtle. A definite plus for me.I think that I would rate my beard as ‘average’. The only ‘wire’ that I have to go through is around my chin [unlike my son-in-law, who has a very heavy beard]. I’m saying this, because I have used only ~20% of the tub since then. I have a generous lather each shave. I only dab my shaving brush fairly lightly onto the surface of the paste, give it ~90 degree twist, splash a little warm water in my cup, jounce the brush vigorously for about 3-5 seconds, and away I go. I should say that I do not bother to rinse my brush each time I use it. Since I am the only user, I think it a waste to wash all the remaining foam down the drain. I’m not cheap; I’m just not wasteful. The next day, I will simply splash a few drops in the cup, work the brush a little more, and there is more than adequate soap for another comfortable shave. On the third day, I’ll dab some more soap on the brush. The way I am going, this tub should last me ~2 full years(!!). How many cans of aerosol, difficult to accurately dispense, shaving cream would you be going through in 2 years? 20 cans? 30??Would I buy this again? [Do ya’ think?…]

5.0 out of 5 stars Works very well
This is a very nice shaving cream in that it doesn’t take much to get a good lather. It does a good job in protecting your face and the scent is not really overbearing. I do wish it was a little cheaper in cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied
I Bought this product for the first time over a year ago. Still have some left. Today I ordered more again. I shave both my head and face completely, so perhaps every three days I use it. I needed to be clean shaven for my job appearance. I’ve had no negative issues with it. Scent is perfect, my wife has complimented it. I use a hairbrush applicator along with a small reservoir, a little goes a long way. It doesn’t evaporate after applying my whole head and face. I’ve read complaints regarding the ‘size of container to ratio of amount of cream’. the container states 5.0 ounces. That equates to under 1 cup U.S. The container would seem to hold 1 cup of water so it seems to be accurate. I’ve read complaints that upon reordering the product that the consistency of the cream and scent has changed giving it negative reviews. I shall see for myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE
This is a company that stands behind their products and you get what they advertise. The Art of ShavingCompany has a beautiful line of products and I absolutely love the Sandalwood scent and my husband loves how it treats his skin!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t be intimidated by the price, you don’t need much. So it will last.
This is the best shaving cream I’ve ever used. I use it for both my face and my skull. The amount that it takes to do my entire head is ridiculously small compared to other shaving cream’s. It is probably less than an 1/8 of a teaspoon. It has a great scent, not a overly strong scent. It is a neutral scent, not feminine or masculine.

A small dab of this shaving cream, creates a rich thick foam for a really smooth shave… amazing scent as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice
Although the scent is a bit strong for me (and I may be a bit sensitive), it’s not obnoxious. A small amount goes a long way, so this jar will last a long time. It lathers well with just a splash of water and your razor will cut well with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to the can!
This shaving cream smells great and leaves enough moisture that you can skip the aftershave. Surprisingly it worked well by hand without a brush so you can use it even if you don’t want to go full on with the gadgets. A little goes a long ways so this tub should outlast a few cans of the pressurized gel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This shaving cream smells good and really helps get to the base of your hair. I am notorious for growing hair around my cheeks and after using this with a standard razor it looks like I never grew hair there in the first place at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best shaving cream
I’ve been using art of shaving for 3 years now. This sandlewood smells amazing and gives a closer shave. It only takes a tiny bit of cream and with the art of shaving brush it works into a lather just like your in a barber shop getting a hot shave. Highly recommend this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cream, highly recommended, may be overpriced
I decided to go a little “old school” with my shaving a few months ago. I had no intention of going straight blade, since I think Gillette nailed it with the Power Proglide Fusion. I stopped by the Art of Shaving store in the mall and was impressed with what I saw, so I decided to not experiment with other brands and go with this one. I couple of things:1) It definitely appears to be overpriced. I’ll experiment with some other creams soon, and perhaps some soaps, but they all appear to cost much less than this one. Still, at just under $25 for, what, 6 months of shaving? That saves me money over what I was doing before with the canned stuff.2) I don’t have sensitive skin – the only reason I wanted to try this was to, well, try it! I wanted to do the whole brush thing, and so far I’ve enjoyed the experience. However, this stuff REALLY makes my skin feel “refreshed” afterwards. I’m guessing that’s because there there is less “junk” in it compared to the canned gels and creams.3) Someone wrote in one of the comments that the Sandalwood scent is too strong. No way. If you use this stuff correctly (a little dab on your brush, work up a lather, apply to face), you can barely smell the Sandalwood. I’d say the scent is perfect. If you rub gobs of this stuff on your skin, maybe it can be too powerful. I haven’t tried. That’s it! Why 4 stars and not 5? Well, I’m not BLOWN AWAY with the quality of the foam. That’s probably my fault for not yet having dialed in the foam generation process, but that’s how it goes. I mean, if it was idiot-proof from the get-go, it would be a 5.Oh yeah, because these creams don’t have a lubricant like the canned stuff, you need a pre-shave oil. I also bought the Art of Shaving Sandalwood pre-shave oil, and I would absolutely recommend that. However, it is also pricey, so I will be making my own from now on (2 parts Castor Oil, 1 part olive oil, a dash of essential oils like sandalwood).

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it
I’m a pretty big fan of shaving, even though I suck at growing hair. My bloodline doesn’t come from the hairiest people, so the most I’ll get is patchy, quarter inch long hair after 2 weeks of growing. Needless to say, it doesn’t look good, and requires shaving. This is by far the best shaving cream I’ve used. I started off shaving with Barbasol cream and a cheap Schick Quattro. My face is sensitive, and so the Barbasol irritated my skin, and did not help provide for a very close shave. Now, I use a double edged safety razor, and a Gillette fusion proglide with the flex ball when I’m short on time.I first came across this cream in an Art of Shaving store in a mall 2 hours from where I live. The associate walked me through the 3 step process that they’re famous for, and gave me a free sample to take home. I loved it. It was the closest shave I’ve ever gotten, and with no irritation. The small packets lasted me 2 shaves.I now own the 5oz tub of this cream, applied with my Escali badger brush, as well as the 3oz bottle of the pre shave oil. Both are rather expensive, however I use such a small amount, that it will easily last me half a year. A dab of shaving cream the size of my fingernail is enough to cover my face twice, which I do on every shave. Again, the pre shave oil combined with the shaving cream gives me the closest shave I’ve had, regardless of the blade I use. It leaves my skin soft and relaxed. The Art of Shaving also has a post-shave lotion, to help soften your skin even more, but I did not enjoy it too much, and didn’t bother to get any when I bought my cream and oil.I highly recommend this product, and encourage you to purchase it for yourself or a loved one, because you/they will love it. Don’t forget to grab the pre-shave oil with it. That’s what helps with the closeness of the shave.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but I prefer Taylor of Old Bond Street…
Since I’ve tried both this product and Taylor of Old Bond Street’s – the two big names (evidently) in shaving creams – I figured it’s about time I write a review. The bottom line is that both products are very good, and if you’re trying to decide between one or the other, you’ll probably be happy with either. However, ultimately I prefer the Taylor of Old Bond Street’s product a tad bit more. The first one I tried was the Art of Shaving’s Sandalwood. When that ran out, I tried Taylor of Old Bond Street’s Sandalwood. When it ran out? I ordered more Taylor of Old Bond Street.Scent-wise, I actually prefer Art of Shaving’s sandalwood over Taylor’s. Art of Shaving’s has a more classic “old barber shop” (or “old man”…) sandalwood scent, while Taylor’s is a little lighter and more…citrusy or floral. Art of Shaving’s scent seems to last a bit longer on your face, too, which I liked. Both products lathered up well, even with my very iron-rich well water (which, for reference, does go through a water softener). I have taken both products with me on travel and they seem to do well across the spectrum of water qualities. Despite Art of Shaving’s claim that this can be used “brushless”, you’ll want to use a shaving brush with these products, not just your hands. A little bit goes a long way with the brush. The one thing I did notice is that the Taylor of Old Bond Street product seemed to fully dissolve and lather a little bit more completely that Art of Shaving’s. What I mean is that at the end of the shave, when rinsing out my shaving mug, there was always a little glob of unlathered product; Taylor’s always fully dissolved and did not leave any residue.I shave about every other day – my facial hair isn’t too thick or fast-growing I guess – and the 5 oz size lasted me around 8 months. The comments above are really the only notable differences / comparisons I could find between the two products. Again, they are both very good and you’ll probably be happy with either, but for me the Taylor of Old Bond Street came out ahead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Last a long time
I’m always so impressed how long a jar of this shaving cream lasts. Not only does it smell good, but just a little bit goes a very long way. And I like the smell. This works so much better than anything that comes from a can.

3.0 out of 5 stars I had high hopes, alas this is NOT good for sensitive skin, which is counterintuitive
I’ve used The Art Of Shaving in the past, heck, I use daily their Sandalwood aftershave and it works fantastically. I have a terribly sensitive baby-face and I’ve found over the years very specific razors, shaving cream and even aftershave that work perfect. Alas, this shave cream, with sandalwood for sensitive skin, gives me razor burn every single time I use it. I thought maybe the first few weeks were a fluke, so I went back to my Proraso Red (also with REAL sandalwood, for sensitive skin) and my razor burn went away after around a week. I continued using Proraso for a few weeks, and thought I’d try the sandalwood AOS shaving cream again. Same result – by the next day I had terrible razor burn and breakouts.I’ll give it to the AOS sandalwood shave cream – it burns really really nicely as using real sandalwood is supposed to do, but, it did not quell my sensitive skin like real sandalwood is supposed to do. I did in fact read other reviewers with sensitive skin stating that this stuff gave them razor burn/break-outs as well. I’m extremely disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great smell
Smells great. Got some for my dad and he loves it and requests when he runs out. He isn’t into brand names and mainly buys generic products so it’s very unusual for him to like a product this much. 1 tub lasts him almost a year. A little goes a long way. Makes for a good Father’s Day or gift.
